H&M Conscious Exclusive Preview

My first impression of sustainable fashion can be summed up to twelve-year-old me wearing reconstructed denim shorts and fabric scraps sewed on together into a tee of sorts, in a fashion show organized by our school for their young aspiring designers circa 2002I like to think that experience added sugar to my creative juices that would lead me to snip away any old clothing I could find at home in an effort to create something new. Fast forward a decade later, I was convinced that any articles made out of recycled fabrics can only look as good as an art project. Clearly that didn't work out.

Fast forward another ten years and here I am in complete reverse. Where fashion meets sustainability, H&M is at the top of its game, creating beautiful and definitely wearable clothing made out of recycled materials through its #closetheloop program, and its Conscious line, now in its 5th year.

This year's Conscious Exclusive collection is nothing short of artistic. Paying homage to Paris' Musée des Arts Décoratifs, it easily combines modernism with history, contemporary with elegance. I'm particularly drawn by the combination of boxy shapes and cuts, and fluid and easy silhouettes - a complete contrast by all means. But lay them all together and you get a uniformed collection that's progressive, soulful, and simply unique.

In light of that, I'm pleased to share with you these images that I snapped away at the H&M showroom during the collection preview, where a DIY workshop was also co-organized by Redress and its alum, designer Angus Tsui. How I managed to sneak away with Chezka dear is beyond what I would do for a regular job. But the business class ferry tickets were too attractive to reject and, let's be honest, the yummy snacks and Mr. Green Juice made the trip all worth it (insert winking emoji here).

Thank you for having me once again, H&M. Always a fan.
