DIY the trends

So ya'll know animal prints and Aztec prints super in the trend right now, right? Well, Penguin came across this tumblr called Fresh Kings and there we saw a lot of trendy things and oh so swag - shoes, shirts, caps, name it! Of the many things that caught our attention,  these pocketed tees pretty much stuck in our heads; we had to have at least one! You can guess what we decided right? DIY.

So last Sunday, we went out fabric hunting and we got two strips, one in leopard print and another in, well, let's say a close one to an Aztec printed fabric. I had a little bit of time last night and tonight so I started working on it.   At first, we only wanted to make something exactly like those on the photos above (shirt with pockets). But there's actually a lot you can do with a half yard strip of fabric and we came up with other ideas.
Now after hours of cutting, pinning, and sewing... we've got these!

The black sweater and tee with leopard are Penguin's while the shirt above and the gray tee is mine, but there are more on process! =)
I took photos while I was working on my tee and if you'd like to get an idea as to how I did it, see photos after the jump. It's a short and pretty much self explanatory tutorial and I hope you like it/understand it. If you want a detailed tutorial help though, don't hesitate to email me anytime -- I'll be glad to help out!

There you have it. (The sweater above is Penguin's, before customization, just wanted to share how it looked before and after).

One thing learnt from this, we don't need to spend much to follow trends. Just get creative. Do you agree?? hehe. I can't wait to wear these masterpieces soon for outfit posts. Have a great weekend loves.

Cheers, Carla
