I can't be anymore straightforward in stating that the best investment pieces for one's wardrobe are simply plain basics than wearing this outfit straight up your face. The sooner you realize that the often ignored blank canvases will save your life as soon as the temperature snoozes 30°C, the bigger you'll thank yourselves. Unfortunately, it took me a closet-full of statement pieces and piles of unworn printed dresses to realize that all I need are a few cropped tanks and tees in plain blacks and whites to complete a summer daily dress up equation. Indeed, it works. Because you can only be so versatile with prints and patterns as long as you have the right accessories and shades to go with them. The rest becomes unwearable - unless you're Sussie Bubble who can mish and mash just about anything and everything, flattering or not, and remain ridiculously famous.

As it is, Saturday, like most other off-day weekends call for a laid-back outfit, specially if you're out to run errands and do meet-ups in between. And with the scorching heat, would you rather melt or die styling? Because I ought to think that styling work best with layers - back me up here Chezka. But even then, basics ease up layering too. The point is, it's not about completely sacrificing style but making it easier to achieve. That's where the beloved ones come in.

Capiche?

Or do you have counter thoughts? If yes, please enlighten me.

On the other hand, I wish you a wonderful weekend as I'm having. Thanks to all your positive remarks on my rather "feeling blue" post previously, I'm in better spirits. Thank you! I really appreciate it.

Much love!

  1. True talk Carla, basics are the best investment piece because they are so versatile. I love this basic look especially the skirt and I love tying denim shirts on the waist. Is Nessa an online shop?

    1. Thanks Sarah! =) and no, Nessa isn't online store. It's of our local handbag boutiques here in Macau; they have the latest handbag designs and trends for a steal.

  2. So true, without staples and neutrals, a closet is useless. Took me way too long to figure that out as well! Haha, but I'm getting there :)
And girrrrl, you're looking good! Love the crop top with the midi skirt. You make it cool-casual once again by adding the denim wrap around and sneakers. Can you just be my stylist? ^^

  6. Love this simple outfit, Carla! You know, I can totally relate to what you said.... I'm the type who loves buying statement clothes and accessories (I'm all about the sequins, the studs, the prints, the colors, etc.) and I'm starting to realize that the "basic" pieces are just as crucial (if not more so). Sometimes understated elegance is the best choice. Also, before I end this comment, let me just tell you how much I really LOVE your hairstyle!! You look so chic.
