Colors of Dubrovnik

I still experience post-vacation withdrawals whenever I see my photos from Europe, Dubrovnik in particular. I just have to live through this for a couple more months I guess. But anyway, here's another set of photos from our short Croatian getaway.

Chezka and I purposely woke up really early  on our second day of stay to beat the crowd and take mandatory outfit photos at the Stari Grad. I've pictured this in my head for the longest time before the trip and I had such huge expectations we'll be able to get the shots. Somewhere between too much relaxation and getting intoxicated by the beauty of Dubrovnik, I decided not to bother with "perfect" outfit photo. After all, no photo would ever beat just being there. So here we are with just a few shots and I'm completely satisfied.

Right after, we checked out the "morning market" where locals setup stalls to sell their homegrown/handmade products like tea, soap, liquor, candies, etc. It's a great place to buy souvenirs actually because the products are a lot cheaper compared to the regular souvenir stores. And pray as they say, are more authentic. Chezka and I are both a little crazy when it comes to souvenir shopping because in Filipino culture, when one travels abroad, everyone back home expects that person to bring back home something for each member of the family, extending to relatives, and it's mandatory (or at least that's how they make you feel like). We still kinda keep up with that tradition so souvenir shopping comes with ticking off names from our mental list of people to bring back "pasalubong" to.

As soon as we've completed our name list, we attended to our growling stomachs by way of a fancy brunch at one of the many alfresco-dining restaurants just along the Stari Grad before heading out to the beaches at Lapad for some much needed R&R. We found ourselves at a private resort called Copacabana that's perfectly situated on the rocky edge of the beach. Their white-curtained cabanas were so alluring we couldn't help but rent one despite the price point (because really, we could have done with two basic beach chairs to lounge around in). But we're already out there and it's not like going to Croatia is something you'd do on a regular basis so what the hell, why not go all out with the splurging, non? So Cabana, drinks, and burgers choosing aside, we were ready to lounge all afternoon. And lounge all afternoon we did. Well, lounged, swam, slept, ate, and then repeated that until we had to go back to the old town for dinner. 

Gosh, I can't tell you how much I loved laying under the sun and getting baked. When we left Lapad, my skin was red as a lobster. But I had that glow on my skin that I haven't seen in a long time, at least since I was sixteen and was living a wild high school life back in the Philippines where I used to go to the beach a lot, and I realized I missed that. I don't go to the beach so often anymore so being at one of the most pristine beaches in Europe just felt right.
