Yellowcard Live in Hong Kong
Recently, Penguin and I went to Hong Kong to watch one of our favourite bands, Yellowcard, play live, and it was just the most surreal thing ever. Even now, I still can't get over the whole experience, as if it were my first time watching a concert. But of course it isn't. I'm thrilled for so many reasons, so allow me to explain and provide some context.
First of all, I have been listening to this band since I was in junior high school. Penguin and I haven't even started dating yet, and we were in completely different worlds. I'm now 26, and I have been dating Penguin for nearly nine years already. You do the math. It's like being my mom, seeing Abba, The Carpenters, or Celine Dion. I'm not sure, but something like that.
So, yes, this was the first time I had ever seen Yellowcard perform live. And to make everything more dramatic (at least for me), this concert was part of their last world tour before they disbanded forever. So you can imagine how happy yet sad I am at the same time, having seen my long-time favourite band play for the first and last time.
It didn't make it any easier for me to absorb the fact that they're just as good live as they are on record. And because most of the songs they played were also from my time as a rebellious teenage girl in high school, screaming my lungs out to punk rock songs, it took me way back. I felt like my younger self all over again, and it felt so good to remember the good old days back in the Philippines, when I was in an all-girl band and was much more musically inclined than fashion-inclined.
Anyway, Penguin and I vlogged about our excursion, so you guys get to see some of the clips from the concert, and of course, what we did during the day before we went full-on Yellowcard fanatics.
