OSAKA

Spring called for a trip.

Spring in Macau can be quite boring and uneventful. In the past, Pierre and I were always busy with work during this period, but that changed after Celine arrived. This time, we found ourselves with a bit of free time—enough to plan a short nearby holiday.

Pierre had always wanted to visit Osaka, and so did I. When he casually mentioned it one day, I didn’t hesitate: I immediately checked flights and booked them. Fortunately, this is a relatively low season in Japan, so flights from Macau were cheaper than usual. And so here we are, off to an adventure for the first time as a family of three with just the three of us.

Kansai answered.

Osaka was the main destination. But no one goes to the Kansai region without visiting its other popular destinations. So, of course, we had to plan our itinerary to include at least a day trip to Kyoto and Nara.

As ever, true to our archivist instincts, we filmed everything and compiled the footage into a two-part video.

On a more personal note, this trip stirred up a lot for me. Since becoming a mom I’ve carried a quiet fear of losing myself — of no longer having time for the things I loved before parenthood. I could unpack that at length another day. For now, the important takeaway is that this trip showed me Pierre and I can still travel and enjoy the things we love, even as parents. Some things will change, but adapting is preferable to giving them up entirely.
