Ralph Lauren ft. BryanBoy

A short recap of what went down at the Ralph Lauren Cocktail Party hosted by BryanBoy. Funny story though, I never have felt so out of place and awkward in my life than being in an event because I was under-dressed. Yes, you read it right.

The thing is, I wasn't planning on attending this party when we decided to ride to Hong Kong for Art Basel. While I did RSVP to the event,  I was more inclined to attend another event that was happening at the same time. But, because my good friend Krisha was attending this event, and she offered to bring us as her guests because I got a vague answer through my RSVP, and because BryanBoy was going to be there too, so, why not?

Well, it's not like I didn't expect it but duh, cocktail parties call for cocktail attire, right? Pierre and I showed up at the front door of the Ralph Lauren flagship store in Central, looking like we just came out of a thrasher party in full streetwear looks, baggy tees, sneakers, and all that. In my defense, like I said, I wasn't planning on attending this event. Art Basel for us was all about the street fashion related stuff that we wanted to see.

And so there we were in our "fancy" outfits getting weird looks from other guests. I wanted the ground to eat me, not because I'm embarrassed of what I was wearing, let's get that clear. It was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. If there's one thing I learned about myself from the experience is that I still lack confidence in certain situations or should I say not that "thick-faced", haha. Anyway, the store started to fill up and soon there were other people in casual wear too. With a few glasses of champagne, I started to feel more at ease later on.

Penguin and I didn't stay too long because we still had another event to attend to in another part of the island. Fortunately, Bryan came early I had the chance to meet him before we left. I was quite surprised that he's so approachable despite him looking like a total biatch in most of his photos. He's nice and gosh, he definitely knows to  a photo spot with the best lighting. If you watched my insta-stories (@misscarlaviolet) that night, you'd understand what I mean when I say lighting for him is serious business. I love it.

Mad love to Krisha for letting us crash the party with her. If you get the chance, check her out on manilahongkie.com (@manilahongkie) - she has such a unique style and is always in the know of the coolest events and happenings in Hong Kong.

Cheers,
Carla
